My Presence Will Go With You

“The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” ~Exodus 33:14

My Presence…in caps…that had to be comforting to Moses. The Israelites were camped at the base of Mount Sinai after fleeing from Egypt. In the next verse, Moses says, “If Your Presence does not go with us, don’t make us leave this place.” God had promised that an angel would lead them to the Promised Land, but Moses said, “thanks but no thanks. We need YOU. Angels are great and all, but they are not enough.”

God would lead them, as a pillar of cloud by day and of fire by night - always visible, always present. I remember hearing that as a child and thinking how great that would be - to see and KNOW that God is there.

But guess what? We DO have this - in our hearts. God used that image to forecast what would come and to teach us what we have! The Old Testament is chock-full of events that point to Jesus, the Messiah and what His coming has done for each and every one of us. For example, another Moses-story and the splitting of the Red Sea - the Israelites represent mankind and the Egyptian army is a analogy to sin and evil, drowned and swallowed up by the ‘RED’ blood of Jesus Christ. Freedom from the bondage of slavery to sin.

Let’s be like Moses and fully trust in The Presence - God promises peace and rest, especially desired during this busy Christmas season! Let’s keep our eyes and hearts focused on Him!
