My Stronghold and My Deliverer - Psalm 144:1-2a
“Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge” ~Psalm 144:1-2a
David trusted God. Period. Even when the odds were stacked against him, David knew that God had his back. Look how he gives God credit for everything; he didn’t say, “I’m so proud of myself for training so hard”, like many athletes are heard to say.
He was after God’s heart. Yes, he made mistakes. BIG ONES - he could be labeled the villain in many areas of his life. But he always returned to the Lord. Even though he walked through death-shadowed valleys, he knew that the Lord was His Shepherd and needed nothing else. He knew that he’d dwell in God’s house forever and ever.
What a great example of God’s love. No matter what we do in life, we are still precious to Him. We can ALWAYS, every.single.time, take refuge in Him. That is the one constant we have, for God does not change.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” ~Hebrews 13:8 “Forever, O Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.” ~Psalm 119:89 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ~Romans 8:38-39
Father, we want to trust you like David did. Shine Your face upon us and be gracious unto us. Let the meditation of our heart be pleasing to you. Amen.
