Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” ~Hebrews 13:5
As I read this verse, there is one part that keeps resounding in my brain - ‘Be content with what you have. Be content with what you have. Be content with what you have.' It won’t stop.
OK OK! I’m listening. God, I AM content with what I have! Why are you poking at me? Well, maybe I do buy too many things. But sometimes it’s nice to have a new shirt. Ok, I didn’t need to buy three. Those craft supplies? Yeah, I’ll probably never make soap, but you never know! And I really really do intend to crochet. I can gift scarves or make those cute little animals that are popular. No, I don't know how. But I can learn. Maybe I should buy an instruction manual. Ouch! Stop poking me.
Ah, that family who lost everything they own in a fire. They could have used what I spent on stuff. And church is raising money to help a woman with medical needs. And that little boy who can’t afford to go to camp. The twin girls who need tap shoes. Lord, there are so many in need! What is wrong with me? How can you love me? I can feel your hug, but I am so ashamed.
‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ Keep repeating it Lord, I need to hear that over and over. You love me because of Your Son. You love me as much as You love Your Son. Help me do better, Lord. Help me help others. Let them see Jesus in me and want to know Him.
Hebrews 13:16 “Do not forget to do good and to help one another, because these are the sacrifices that please God.”
Galatians 6:10 “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Have a blessed day!
