Praise the Lord and Make Music to Your Name
Psalm 92: 1-5
“It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!”
Music is such a powerful force when it comes to our mind and body - catchy upbeat tunes seem to bring your muscles to life, your toe starts tapping, your body swaying. Melancholy music causes you to draw inward and reach deep into nostalgia within the banks of memory. Tears often well up without warning.
I never will understand how some churches forbid music. Have they never read the Psalms? Over and over again, David encourages believers to praise God with song and instruments. And some glorious day, all of creation will sing!
Read Psalm 148! It’s a poster for the exclamation point! You can FEEL David’s energy and exuberance, words spilling over each other in excitement about the Lord. This is God’s caffeine!
Then read Psalm 150 - ahhh, it is wondrous!
Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
