Pray for Each Other so That You May Be Healed

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” ~James 5:16

Camel knees. Can you see them? Big, knobby and gnarly. In youth group, we used to call all the old church ladies who met to pray ‘Ol’ Camel Knees'. Rumor had it that they knelt on the hardwood floor to pray so often that their knees became callused. (Most likely they were praying for us!)

I looked up the term ‘camel knees’ to see if it was a thing. Guess what? James…THIS James, the brother of Jesus… was called ‘Old Camel Knees'. What?? I’m sitting here with my mouth on the floor. I don’t recall ever hearing that before.

“He was in the habit of entering alone into the temple, and was frequently found upon his knees begging forgiveness for the people, so that his knees became hard like those of a camel” ~_The fourth-century church historian, Eusebius

The point is that praying people bring results. They are called ‘prayer warriors’. Why warriors? Because it’s a battle against distraction, drowsiness, worry and wandering thoughts. Anything and everything gets in the way. Often the combat occurs at night. Sleep is elusive as the warrior fights (I often picture Jacob wrestling with the Angel of the Lord). But the warrior perseveres by the power of the Holy Spirit and the impossible happens. God hears and God answers.

“if My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” ~2 Chronicles 7:14

Have a blessed day!
