“Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.” ~Psalm 116:7

“Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.” ~Psalm 116:7

This Psalm is so heartfelt - you can feel the intensity and the-face-on-the-floor-gratitude of the author (most likely, David). He personifies his soul, “My soul, calm down! The LORD is caring for you.” [love that!] This psalm was quoted by Jonah from the belly of the sea creature, sung by Jesus and his disciples during the Last supper (and all Passover meals as part of the tradition). It is the recognition and acknowledgment that the Lord is the One who saves.

I wonder if the praise song, “I love You, Lord” was inspired by this psalm? Maybe it’s because that is the first verse: “I love you, LORD! You answered my prayers”. It won’t leave my brain, so I’ll share it with you:

“I love You, Lord, and I lift my voice
To worship You, O my soul rejoice
Take joy, my King, in what You hear
Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear
Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear”

~Maranatha! Praise Band

Lord, may our praise be pleasing to you. We love you. Amen
