Rooted in His Promises: Using the BLESS Method in April

BLESS Method journaling using Bible Side Notes and Draw Near Daily

This month, we’re focusing on something that feels especially needed right now…
being rooted in God’s promises.

Have you ever noticed how the strongest, most beautiful trees are the ones with the deepest roots? When storms come, they don’t topple. When dry seasons hit, they don’t wither. They stand firm because what’s happening beneath the surface is stronger than anything happening above it.

The same is true for us.

When our lives are rooted in God’s promises — not our feelings, not our circumstances — we begin to stand differently. There’s a steadiness. A quiet confidence. A peace that doesn’t make sense to the world, but makes perfect sense when we remember who God is and what He has said.

This month, I’m spending time each day in Scripture using the BLESS Method, a simple and meaningful way to slow down, listen, and truly connect with God’s Word.

I’ll be sharing my personal journal entries here each Monday as I walk through these scriptures. My prayer is that it encourages you to open your Bible, pick up your pen, and draw near to Him — right where you are.

What is the BLESS Method?

The BLESS Method is a gentle, step-by-step way to study Scripture and grow deeper in your faith:

B — Bible Verse: Start with a focused passage
L — Listen & Pray: Ask God to guide your understanding
E — Explore the Meaning: Look at the context and background
S — Study & Savor: Reflect on key words and truths
S — Summarize & Share: Write what God is speaking to your heart

It’s not about doing it perfectly — it’s about creating space to hear from God in a personal and meaningful way.

There’s something so helpful about not having to wonder, Where should I start today? It allows me to simply open my Bible, settle in, and spend time with God without overthinking it.

Reflections:

As I began this month’s theme, Rooted in His Promises, I was reminded again and again that God’s promises are not fragile. They are not uncertain. They are not dependent on my emotions or circumstances. They are steady because they are anchored in His unchanging character.

These first six scriptures all point to the same beautiful truth in different ways. God does not lie. He does not fail. He does not forget what He has spoken. What He promises, He fulfills. What He says, stands firm.

Spending time with these verses has felt like a deep breath for my soul. In a world where so much feels shaky, God’s Word remains unshaken. His faithfulness is not temporary, and His promises are still as true today as they have ever been.

Reflections:

This week, I found myself not just remembering that God makes promises… but realizing how powerful and unshakable His Word truly is.

In Isaiah, we’re reminded that His Word never returns empty—it always accomplishes what He sends it to do. That alone changes how I read Scripture. These aren’t just comforting words… they are living, active, and purposeful.

Then I moved into Romans and saw Abraham’s faith again—how he didn’t waver, even when circumstances said otherwise. It challenged me in the best way. Do I trust God’s promises like that? Do I hold onto them when I don’t yet see the outcome?

Verse after verse this week pointed to the same steady truth:
God’s Word is completely trustworthy—from beginning to end. Not one promise has failed, not one word has fallen short, and not one truth will ever change.

And maybe what settled into my heart the most this week was this…
Because His Word is firm, I can stay rooted.

Not because life feels steady.
But because He is.

Day 17 — Isaiah 40:8
Day 18 — Romans 8:32
Day 19 — Titus 1:2
Day 20 — Psalm 89:34

Reflections:

This week, the picture of being rooted became even more real to me.

Jeremiah paints such a beautiful image of a tree planted by the water—its roots reaching deep, not afraid of heat, not anxious in drought. And I realized… that kind of steadiness doesn’t come from everything around us being easy. It comes from where we’re planted.

As I moved through the rest of the scriptures, I kept seeing that same thread:
God is faithful. His Word stands. His promises hold. Always.

Even when life feels uncertain…
Even when prayers feel unanswered…
Even when the future feels unclear…

He remains steady.

What really settled into my heart this week is this:
I don’t have to chase security—I’m already held by it.

His Word doesn’t fade.
His love doesn’t waver.
His promises don’t break.

And when I stay rooted in Him, I don’t have to fear what’s ahead… because the One who holds it all is completely trustworthy.

Reflections:

As this month comes to a close, I find myself resting in a deeper sense of confidence—not in my circumstances, but in the unchanging nature of God.

These scriptures reminded me again and again that everything in this world may shift… but God never does. His Word stands. His character remains the same. His faithfulness is constant.

From the reminder that heaven and earth may pass away, but His words never will… to the truth that every good and perfect gift comes from Him who does not change… it all points back to one steady foundation.

God is not only faithful in what He has promised—He is faithful in who He is.

And maybe that’s what I’m carrying with me most from this month:
I don’t have to hold everything together.

I can trust the One who already does.

Because He is always present…
always faithful…
and always true to His Word.

Final Encouragement

Friend, if life has felt a little shaky lately…
if your emotions have been all over the place…
if you’ve found yourself wondering what’s true and what’s not…

Come back to this:

God’s promises have not changed.

They are still true.
They are still steady.
And they are still available for you to stand on today.

You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You don’t have to feel strong.

You just need to stay rooted.

One verse at a time.
One quiet moment at a time.
One step closer to Him.
