"sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” ~Hebrews 12:1-2

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” ~Hebrews 12:1-2

Hebrews 11 is known as the Faith Hall of Fame, ending with verse 40. Seamlessly, it flows into 12:1 [the original scriptures had no division; these conveniences were added later, almost like an address, to easily reference portions of the Word. In fact, Greek did not even use punctuation or have spacing between words! I can’t imagine not having access to an exclamation point!]

Anyway, the great cloud of witnesses includes the likes of Abraham, Moses, Daniel, Rahab, but I believe also includes our loved ones who have passed into Glory. This verse tells us that we are SURROUNDED by them; they are not WAY UP THERE in another realm. It’s like they are cheering us on as we run the race of life, Jesus running with us, as well as being at the finish line. Jesus IS the finish line. He is all and in all.

Colossians 3:11  “Where there is no Greek or Jew, no one with circumcision or without circumcision, no division between nations, no servant or free man: but Christ is all and in all.”

There is never a reason to feel alone. Sometimes I ask God to let me see those surrounding me - He doesn’t, but He DOES give me a sense of peace and comfort and community bound together in love. A holy hug from Jesus.
