Seek Me

“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” ~Jeremiah 29:13

Aren’t those the most comforting words ever spoken? Ah, they just saturate your soul with love and peace and all that is good. If you read the whole chapter of Jeremiah 29, you’ll see that these words would have had an even greater effect, for the temple in Jerusalem had been destroyed and most of the population had been exiled to Babylon and were now to be assimilated into the culture of the captors. This letter was God speaking to them, taking full responsibility for what had just happened to them. They had been warned over and over again - the hammer finally dropped. But, God promises hope. “Build your lives there, make friends, do community work, marry, take advantage of the prosperous life but know that in 70 years, I will be back. I will restore everything that you have lost.”

And He did. Do you know what this is? A promise of what’s to come! Just like the Israelites, we are kept in a state of anticipation, in a sense, prisoners of this world of sin, waiting for His return. We are to make the best of what we have, build our lives, make friends, marry, prosper and multiply…sound familiar? God commanded them to pray for their new home. Wow. Fast forward 500 years and Paul writes the same thing.

Jeremiah 29:7  “Also, do good things for the city I sent you to. Pray to the LORD for the city you are living in, because if there is peace in that city, you will have peace also."

1Timothy 2:2  “You should pray for rulers and for all who have authority. Pray for these leaders so that we can live quiet and peaceful lives—lives full of devotion to God and respect for Him.”

These words are for us, as well, and we need to hear them more than ever. Seek Him and you will find Him. That’s a promise!
