Set Your Hearts on Things Above

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” ~Colossians 3:1

This verse kinda lifts your spirits, doesn’t it? Maybe it’s the wording - ‘raised’ and ‘above’. Or the phrases WITH Christ, mentioned three times. Three is a significant number in the Bible - perfection, God, totality, completeness…

I looked into ‘set your hearts on things above’ and found that the intent is to convey the sense of seeking with intense desire, disregarding all else. So, what are those things above?

It is our life goal, the final destination where there are no more tears, no pain or suffering, no sickness or disappointment, no worry or fear. Just contemplating that scenario fills me with peace and expectation. Like Peter, when he stepped out of the boat to walk on the raging sea heading to the outstretched hand of our Lord. But Peter did what we all do - he took his eyes off of Jesus and focused on the chaos swirling around him….and started to sink.

We are hidden IN Christ…we are part of Him. Let’s act like it! Keep our gaze on Him, rely on His calming presence and extend His love to others.
