Set Your Minds on Things Above, Not on Earthly Things
“ Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” ~Colossians 3:2-3
Have you heard the saying, “Don’t be so heavenly-minded that you’re no earthly good”? That is polar opposite of what Paul is telling us in the book of Colossians. But I tend to think that the saying is referring to those types who spout ‘god-speak’ continually - where you get a car-salesman-schmooze vibe. I want to shake them while saying, “Be real! Stop acting self-righteous and pious!”
So, what is Paul talking about, one might ask. I died? Even though some days may feel like I'm close to it, I am still very much alive. Ephesians 2:5-6 tells us that “even when we were dead in our sin, God made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and seated us together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus”.
Remember where you are! That will change you, change your perspective, point of view and attitude. We are hidden in Christ Who is alive and sitting on the throne. Keep your eyes on that throne and see what happens in your life. God is bigger than any problems you face and He KNOWS you. You are seen and loved. Oh, He loves you so much.
Remember the old hymn ‘Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus’? Here’s the refrain - it will which set your mind on things above.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Have a blessed day!
