Sweeter Than Honey

Christian cross jewelry faith based blessed gifts Inspirational devotional

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalm 119:103 ESV

“Taste and see that the Lord is good” Psalm 34:8

Do you have a sweet tooth? I readily admit that I do, and I especially love chocolate. Okay, if I am going to be completely honest, I love pretty much any kind of food or treat that is sweet: cakes, cookies, pastries, ice cream, and candy, the list goes on and on! Another sweet treat at the top of my list is probably honey. Honey is naturally sweet and never goes bad and ohhh is it good!

Our scripture today tells us that the words of God are “sweeter than honey”. He has given us something even greater than sweetness to chew on:  His words. God’s words (or laws) bring a sweetness to the life we live.  Just like we crave sweets, our lives should crave the sweetness of God’s words so that we will “taste and see that the Lord is good”.

When we go to church and listen to the pastor or enjoy the music, we shouldn’t rely on just those things as our “honey”. We may learn a lot from the pastor’s message, but we also need to enjoy God’s word on our own. We need to taste it, take it within ourselves, and then come back for more.  Without the desire to read God’s Word, even those of us who read the Word daily out of a sense of duty, will fail.  We must fall in love with the Author Himself and desire to be in His word.

God’s word is better than honey, or even chocolate, because everything that comes from Him is good. Honey is never bitter or sour, and neither is the Bible to a child of God. His Word helps us keep our feet on the right path by acting as a light for that path. It calls us to ask for forgiveness when we fail, and it brings great reward to our lives.

The Word gives us understanding, wisdom and insight and helps us to avoid evil paths. The more we are in the Word, the more we come to crave it, and we can feel its benefits and see it working in our lives the more we study it. When we immerse ourselves in scripture, God will increase our devotion to Him and guide us, shining His life along the paths we walk.

How sweet is your honey? Is God’s Word sweet in your mouth? Do you hunger for His word?

Have a blessed day!

~Bev
