Take Delight in the Lord
“Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart” ~Psalm 37:4
This phrase, ‘take delight’ can also be translated as, ‘find happiness’. Happiness is an elusive thing - I feel happy when I’m content. Others define happiness as an emotional charge or with acquiring possessions.
Indian-American author, Deepak Chopra writes: “Be happy for no reason, like a child. If you are happy for a reason, you’re in trouble, because that reason can be taken from you”.
I believe that he has nailed the definition of what it means take delight in the Lord. We don’t need a reason. We don’t love Him for what He’s done, but for Who He is. Reminds me of the song by Casting Crowns, “Who Am I?”
Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love and watch me rise again?
Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea
Would call out through the rain and calm the storm in me? Not because of who I am, but because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done, but because of who You are
When we’re delighting in the Lord, our desires are in tune with His will. We are joyful with HIS joy. We love with HIS love. It becomes automatic, driven by the Holy Spirit. If we could only keep that relationship on the road - but because we’re human, we drive off into a ditch over and over again. But God picks us up and puts us back on course, always loving us, guiding us and filling us with happiness.
But because of Who You are….
Have a blessed day!
