Taught by God

“Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.” ~1 Thessalonians 4:9

Taught by God. Wow! Think of that! “Who was your best teacher, ever?” “Ummm…I’d have to say, God”. Crazy! But guess what? Each one of us can say that. Romans 5:5 tells us that the Holy Spirit continually pours the love of God into our hearts. It never stops. Even when we are filled with rage and vengeance, God is still there, the Ultimate Supplier Who is never delayed. Sometimes it just takes a stop.regroup.restart to get on the right track again. To access that pure love that comes from God Himself.

God’s Spirit had several names…Teacher is one of them. “The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things” ~John 14:26a After his Damascus Road conversion (see Acts 9:1-19), Paul was taught by Jesus Himself for three years in Arabia (Galatians 1). There were many false teachings circulating; I believe that God wanted Paul to get it right “from the horse’s mouth”, since he would be responsible to spread Christianity to the world.

We pick up that responsibility two centuries later - like a baton being passed from one runner to the next. Let us be like those Thessalonians, whose love for one another was legendary (they had their share of issues, but being loving wasn’t one of them). True love is magnetic, it opens doors to conversations and becomes a beacon of light. God commands us to love, and then gives us His own and empowers us to spread it to others. How can we turn down or ignore such a gift as this?
