Tears Are Prayers Too

Tears Are Prayers Too.

"Tears are prayers, too. They travel to God when we can't speak." Psalm 56:8
David wrote these beautiful words as he was fleeing from his enemies. Another translation adds a layer of sweet compassion: "You have kept record of my days of wandering. You have stored my tears in your bottle and counted each of them." The thought that God cares so deeply for us that He keeps and counts our tears brings me to my knees. And the promise in Revelation 7:17 is just as tenderhearted: "The Lamb in front of the throne will be their shepherd. He will lead them to springs of water that give life. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

I picture sitting on His lap, my head against his chest as He wipes my tears with His fingertips. As a mom and a grandma, I can say that there is great joy in comforting a teary young one. How much greater joy does our Lord have when we need that attention?

Did you know that under a microscope, our tears have unique crystalline structures depending on the emotion that brought them forth? Tears of grief, of homesickness, of pain, of fear, of joy - each look distinctively different! Isn't that amazing?!?!

As the Psalmist said, our tears are prayers and God hears them as clearly as the spoken word. He cries with you and lifts you up to comfort you.
Psalm 34:18  The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Isa 57:15  The High and Lofty One lives forever, and his name is holy. This is what he says: I live in a high and holy place. But I am with those who are crushed and humble. I will renew the spirit of those who are humble and the courage of those who are crushed.

Have a blessed day!
