The Lord has Done It
“ This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” ~Psalm 118:24
How many of you are singing “This is the day, this is day that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made, We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in it and be glad in it!”? Old school Sunday School song for kiddos. But even as an adult, I cannot sing it without that joy creeping in!
This whole psalm is magnificent!! It is full of refuge and protection, a celebration of God’s faithful love! The phrase “His lovingkindness endures forever” appears five times. Five is the biblical number for grace - that is significant, for the Psalm goes on to talk about the Messiah, Who is Grace and Truth. The Cornerstone that was rejected. Salvation for us all.
And if you split the Bible in half, the middle verse of all 31,102 verses comes from this Psalm, verse 8: “It is better to trust in the Lord than to trust in man.” Again, no coincidence.
You may think that any verse would fit the bill, but noooooo…listen to Tim Hawkin’s “Favorite Bible Verse” skit, if you can. He was signing autographs and a little church lady asked him to write his favorite verse after his name. He blanked and just wrote Psalm 38:7 for everyone in line. When he looked it up later, he was horrified! “I have a painful disease in my loins”. LOL!
Tim wants everyone to know that his REAL favorite verse is Psalm 34:8 “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” What beautiful words - taste them, savor them, let them become part of your soul. Trust in Him for His faithful love is everlasting.
Have a blessed day!
