The Morning Sun

“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” ~Proverbs 4:18

Did you ever watch a sunrise at the beach? You have to get settled in your seat while it is still dark - you don’t want to miss a moment. It’s dark dark dark and then all of the sudden a faint pastel glow appears, seemingly from below the ocean’s horizon. All the colors - impossible but they are there. The glimmer strengthens until liquid gold appears, piercing your eyes with those radiant beams of light, reflecting intensity off the water. How can it get any brighter? But it does. Your shivering body warms and the world awakens. It’s an experience you will never forget.

Jesus was The Righteous One. “I am writing this to you, my children, so that you will not sin; but if anyone does sin, we have someone who pleads with the Father on our behalf—Jesus Christ, the righteous one.” ~1 John 2:1

His life followed this path - He started quietly, but as His fame grew, His light burned brighter and brighter. Folks traveled for miles to hear Him. Religious leaders were murderous with jealousy and the political realm feared His influence. He became so popular that they killed Him. The greatest irony the world has ever seen. But this was not on their own accord; it was fueled by evil, by the king of darkness.

BUT….”Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot not overtake it.” ~John 1:5 And we are part of that Light. We have been made righteous because of Jesus. “For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.” ~Romans 5:19  No matter how much evil is in the world, and wow, has it been ramped up, the Light is stronger and the “full light of day” is coming. We can help push back the darkness.

We shine ever brighter as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen. ~2 Peter 3:18
