The Saying That is Written Will Come True

“When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’ ” ~1 Corinthians 15:54-55

The next verses tell us that 'The sting of death is sin and the power of sin is the law.” The Message Bible translates as “It was sin that made death so frightening and the law-code guilt that gave sin its leverage. But now in a single victorious stroke of Life, all three - sin, guilt, death - are gone. The gift of our Master, Jesus Christ.”

Jesus was victorious! He defeated death and we are in a now/not yet period of waiting for His return. Verse 51 urges us to ponder this mystery. Paul reveals something that has never been seen before - no one will sleep; we will all experience a change in the blink of an eye! Our earthy bodies have an expiration date. But our future bodies are immortal, like our soul and spirit.

Colossians 3 tells that when Christ appears, we will be with Him in glory! Death no longer has a hold on us. The original Greek indicates that this is an on-going action, so as Jesus Christ is revealed NOW, so are we! The world sees Christ in us. How dare we think that we have a license to sin!

‘Christian’ means “little Christ'. We’d better start acting like it!
