The Work God Has Commissioned You

Giving yourself fully to the work God has commissioned you to do, september 15, 2022, 1 chronicles 22:13

1 Chronicles 22:13 - Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.

King David was making preparations for the new temple to be built. He gathered all the workers, developed all the plans and supplies and had everything pretty much set up, however he knew that it would not be completed in his time, but that his son Solomon was commanded to build the temple.  He didn’t give Solomon a choice or an option, it was just expected. David had intended to build it himself, but God had told him he was not allowed because of the blood that he had shed and the wars that he had waged. God had told Nathan that David would not be the one to build the temple, but that his son Solomon would build it.

In this passage, David is telling Solomon that he will prosper if he follows God’s commands.

Maybe you’ve dreamed of how God might use you to advance His kingdom, or you have plans already to serve Him. But then maybe, like David, you discover that you are not the one to be able to see your dream become reality.  If you are stopped by God from doing what you planned, would you still work on it? Even if you weren’t going to see the end results or be involved on the level you had hoped, would you still give of yourself to the work?

Look at Moses, he led the people of Israel for 40 years and was taken to the very edge of the Promised Land but then was denied entry. Paul planted seeds among many, many people, started churches then gave up the leadership to other men that he had mentored. And here, David gave up his rights to finish the temple, and gave it to his son….all for the glory of God

So again, if you weren’t going to see the end results or be involved on the level you had hoped, would you still give of yourself to the work?

This is a heart issue. Our hearts must be in sync with God all the time to know what His plans and dreams are for us.  I urge you to follow David’s example and find some way that you can still serve God and do your best at that.  Give yourself fully to the work God has commissioned you to do. The dreams God gives us are God’s, not ours.  And within the dreams, we have a role.  Let’s do it with everything we’ve got.
