Then Make My Joy Complete
“then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.” ~Philippians 2:2
I’ve read this verse a million times, but today, it struck me with new meaning. When the Philippian church acted as a unified body, Paul’s joy was complete. And Paul is a representation of Jesus, so when we, the Christian church, is like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind, we complete the joy of God.
Well, we can all agree on ONE thing…that we fail big time. Even though it’s impossible to make God more or less of anything, it’s a way to understand in human terms how things are on a divine level.
The thought of God being joyful when we are one in spirit should not be surprising. Anyone who has children can relate. Have you seen the ‘get-along’ t-shirt for bickering siblings? It is big enough for two, designed to be worn until they make up. I used to have my girls sit on the steps, holding hands for 10 minutes.
The Holy Spirit is our ‘get-along’ shirt, blanketing us with love, saturating our hearts. Why don’t we listen? Why can’t the church put aside their differences and become one voice? Oh, we think we listen and some day, we actually will. For now, let’s start with ourselves, our families, our local church. Baby steps. Verse 3 gives us a good starting point:
“In whatever you do, don't let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves.” ~ Philippians 2:3
Have a blessed day!
