“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm." ~1 Corinthians 15:58

“ Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” ~1 Corinthians 15:58

This verse closes a passage about our eternal destiny, teaching that because of all the wonderful things to come, we should keep on plugging. It’s the proverbial carrot. Key to this verse are the phrases, ‘Standing firm, and immovable’…the connotation is having your feet encased in cement. You're not going anywhere. That’s how solid our foundation in Christ is! Picture that image when you’re tempted to go sideways. Keep your eyes on Jesus and keep working for Him.

It seems like when people say, "working for the Lord" or "Doing the work of the Lord", they're referring to being a pastor, missionary, Sunday School teacher, etc. But what if it means your job as a secretary, a janitor, an engineer, a banker, an insurance agent or working at McDonalds or babysitting or mowing grass....? The Christian life is living every moment for the Lord. But what does that mean? It could be asking the Lord to guide you throughout the day. Or asking Him to let you glorify His name in your actions. Or to put someone in your path that needs help.

But even more - it is reflecting Jesus in your walk-a-day life. It's in your smile, your kind word, your comforting touch, your forgiveness, your mercy, your love. What would the world be like if kindness was the natural response to the chaos? It's almost unthinkable if you watch the news.

But love WINS! The love that Jesus lived. That triumphs! Be like Jesus!
