"to Him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.” ~Revelation 1:6

“and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father—to Him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.” ~Revelation 1:6

In the Old Testament, priests were the contact with God, the mediators - they were the ones who made the sacrifices for the forgiveness of the sins of the people. The maintained and taught the law. This came with huge responsibility - there are times when missteps were punished with death [Leviticus 10].

Then came Jesus! He was THE Priest who became the ultimate Mediator, Sacrificer AND Sacrifice, the once and for ALL Offering.

Romans 6:10  “For the death He died He died to sin, once for all, but the life He lives He lives to God.”

1 Timothy 2:5 “There is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”

Hebrews 10:11-12 “And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God”

We are now IN Him - the Bible tells us that we have died and were buried with Him and now sit with Him on High! We were made priests because of what He has done!

We not only have direct contact with God like the priest of the Old Testament, there are no more sacrifices because Jesus did it all! We are included in the Triune God! How can that be? It’s something our human minds can’t even grasp. I struggle to find the words.

God Almighty, thank you for making us a kingdom, our King, Christ Jesus. Remind us to live like the priests we are, that you no longer want sacrifices, but desire our love and worship. Fill us with the fruit of Your Spirit so that we may reflect Your Son. And most of all, fill us to overflowing with gratitude for the gift of Your Son, who initiated the new covenant of forgiveness and love. Saturate us with Your presence. Amen!
