"value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” ~Philippians 2:3-4

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” ~Philippians 2:3-4

Well, it’s not hard to see that our current culture is polar opposite of what these verses tell us. It’s all about ME and what is best for ME. ‘Put yourself first’; ‘Never settle for less than you deserve’, etc.

But does that feel right? You might attain something you've always wanted, but it is never enough, right? We always want something more, something better, something greater. There is nothing wrong with striving to continually improve. We need to set goals - it feels great to achieve them. The issue is when they become an obsession or sole focus.

I’m currently buried under a mess of deadlines and people who need me - I start to feel panic. But I know, really KNOW, that God will give me the time to do what He wants me to accomplish. Everything else is rubbish. So I pray for patience and perseverance. And time.

The world is a better place when we put each other first. Jesus ALWAYS put others before Him. WWJD - remember that? ‘What would Jesus do”. It’s helpful to me. I’ll get my stuff done, but I need to help others first.

Father, help us live out these verses - that the world will see Your love through us. Squash our pride and selfish ambition and enable us to value others above ourselves. Amen.
