"We are the clay, You are the potter;" ~Isaiah 64:8

“Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hand.” ~Isaiah 64:8
Have you ever played with potter’s clay? It’s messy and and primal and earthy. It is impossible to stay clean. It’s no accident that God used this analogy to describe our relationship with Him. He is INVOLVED. He didn’t wind us up like a watch and walk away. God is part of everything we do - the joy and the pain. He molds us and shapes us - an evolution of moments that defines who and what we are. There are many songs/hymn written using this passage. But my favorite takes me back to my childhood hymnbook - let this be our prayer.
Lord, You are the Potter and I am the clay.
Mold me and make me, have Thine own way
Lord, I need Your Spirit, Lord, I need Your grace;
help me to run this Christian race.
You are the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me, have Thine own way.
Lord, I give my life, I give my all to You,
to be a willing vessel, to use me through and through.
Lord, I need Your Spirit, Lord, I need Your grace;
help me to run this Christian race.
Have Your way, have Your way in me.
