We may approach God with freedom and confidence
“In Him and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.“ ~Ephesians 3:12
When I picture the word ‘approach’ in my mind, it takes a Family-Circus-comic-strip-trip to the Wizard of Oz [you are nuts, some are thinking]. The scene is Dorothy and Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion clutching each other as they approach the ‘All Powerful’ Wizard. Terrified, trembling, knees knocking, ready to bolt. Afraid for their lives.
What a polar opposite we have here in the book of Ephesians. What does it say? “approach God (the All Powerful, All Knowing Creator of the Universe) with FREEDOM and CONFIDENCE. My heart slowed a bit - I still have a sort of PTSD from The Wizard of Oz. I feel peace wash over me as I read this again. “Approach God with freedom and confidence”.
And WHY can we do this? How on earth CAN we do this? Because Jesus. It’s always because of Him. We are IN Him; God sees His Son when He sees us. I prefer the Greek that says, ‘through the faithfulness of Him’ - the faithfulness of Jesus to go to the cross for us. As us. Jesus did that so that we became His Body. And now we are one with Him. Where He goes, we go.
Wow.
“Therefore we were buried together with Him through immersion into death—in order that just as Messiah was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. God raised us from death to life with Christ Jesus, and He has given us a place beside Christ in heaven. ~Romans 6:4; Ephesians 2:6
