We too may live a new life.

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” ~Romans 6:4

What a perfect verse for the day after Easter Sunday! Christians all over the globe have just had a week of reminders of what Christ suffered for us…even AS us.

We journey from His triumphal entrance to Jerusalem, seated on a donkey, fulfilling a prophecy by Zechariah 9:9. We see Him overturn the tables in the temple, blast the religious leaders, curse the parabolic fig tree. We feel his anguish over Jerusalem as He predicts her destruction. We sit and listen to His famous ‘Olivet Discourse’ and then partake in the ‘Last Supper’ as He lovingly washes His disciples feet, preparing them for the next phase of His ministry. He inaugurates the New Covenant - one of love and mercy and forgiveness. Then we head to the Garden of Gethsemane, where He pours out His heart to His Father in heaven as we nod off to sleep. The rest becomes a blur of deceit, shame and betrayal, as Judas and Peter and really, all of His followers leave Him to be falsely accused in multiple courts and sentenced to death by crucifixion. We see the horror of the beatings, whippings and mockery. We flinch at each sound of the hammer pounding nails into our Lord’s flesh. We cannot look away.

But we do, don’t we? One week each year, we experience this story. We may weep when we read the recorded words and truly feel a renewed love for Jesus. We feel joy Easter morning when we see an empty tomb. We rejoice when the risen Jesus appears to the disciples. But then comes Monday. Most are back to work. We put “Easter” back in the attic with the bunny decorations.

Let’s keep this verse alive in our hearts! Let’s keep our eyes focused on Jesus and celebrate Easter every day! For we have died, were buried and now risen with Him! Jesus did this for us, as us. We are His body - where He goes, we go!

Have a blessed day!
