Isaiah 12:3 - With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

If you’ve ever been to the semi-arid climate of Israel, you know that it is more than half desert and it is frequently hit with droughts. It wasn’t until 2015 that Israel was able to come up with a sustainable water management system to give them even distribution of freshwater throughout the country by drawing water from the same water table. Why am I bringing this up?

In the days of Isaiah, water was very rare, so drawing water from a well was extremely important, and the well represented life! Water was absolutely necessary, and was a precious gift. Just like the gift of salvation is just as precious.

Jesus quoted the prophet Isaiah more than any other prophet. In John 4:14, Jesus promised us that whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.

Unlike a well of water, the Lord’s resources are not limited.  There is not just one well of salvation. There are actually many wells of salvation. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean that there are many ways to be saved.  What I mean is that all the wells draw from the same reservoir of salvation, which is Jesus Christ. But many wells can bring water from the same water table.

Our scripture today says, YOU will draw water from the well.  That means there is something for us to do. We need to reach out and draw what God has provided to us. But, we are using His water, His well, His rope and bucket!

And how do we draw that water?  With joy. With joy, because it is all God’s.  No sad faces when we’re at the well of the Lord’s salvation! We draw water with Joy!
