Wings Like Eagles

Image of an eagle flying with the words "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagle; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31"
"But those who hope in the Lord. will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." ~Isaiah 40:31

The Hebrew word for 'hope' here has many layers of meaning - to patiently wait, to linger, to expect. The Greek has even more variations - to endure, abide, dwell, to continue in a state of expectancy, to suffer patiently. I love the original language of the Bible for these reasons! If you put all those definitions together, doesn't this verse just explode with meaning?

Suffer? How does that correspond with hope? Picture a family driving to their best vacation. "Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" (perhaps the word patient doesn't quit hit the mark), everyone is together, with one goal, anticipating a glorious time of freedom and joy. Hours of torture before that happens.

Isaiah is expounding on the greatness of God in this chapter - his audience would understand that they need to wait on the Lord to act, to be patient and not lean on their own plans. If they patiently endure until HE is ready, it will be as if they are given superpowers. This speaks into our hearts as well. We are so quick to react, to 'git 'er done', to make 'karma' happen, but that is exhausting. Doing things our own way makes us tired and weary. But if we ask God for help, and WAIT....patiently, trusting Him to answer, we will feel like we are flying - on top of the world - full of vigor and energy.
It takes practice. It's not easy to wait patiently for something. But He promises that it's worth it!
Have a blessed day!
