“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first." ~Revelation 2:4-5

“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.” ~Revelation 2:4-5

There are many ways to approach this passage, but for me, the standout takeaway is that it is never too late. God will take you back over and over and over - no matter what you’ve done (think of David!). No matter how far you’ve fallen.

Yes, there may be consequences to your actions, your words, but God tells us that our sins are as far away from each other as the East is from the West. “As distant as the east is from the west, that is how far He has removed our sins from us.” ~Psalm 103:12 Notice that HE removed them - we had nothing to do with it.

Just last night, I was reading a study on time and space and the author mentioned that things traveling east and west will never ever meet. This verse immediately came to mind. It’s a metaphor for infinite distance and separation. “It emphasizes the totality of divine pardon and the impossibility of reaching a point where God’s forgiveness is exhausted.” AH, isn’t that BEAUTIFUL?!?

Keep plug’n along. It’s OK to fall down. It’s OK to run in the opposite direction (think Jonah). God’s love does not change. He remains faithful even when we have no faith [2 Timothy 2:13].

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ~Romans 8:38-39

This is the ONLY time the phrase Oh my God! is appropriate!
