Your Bodies are Temples of the Holy Spirit
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” ~1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” ~1 Corinthians 3:16
I’m pretty sure these passage was used across the board as a scare tactic for teenagers. Church ladies warning against smoking and drinking. I went to college with this on my mind, which led to a build-up of guilt and self-condemnation.
Most days, I certainly don’t feel like a temple. My mirror often says, “go back to bed and start over”. But God tells us that we’re a royal palace, a holy place fit for the King of the universe. One the most important things, often overlooked, is that we’re in this together!
Collectively, we are all one, the body of Christ, where He is the head. In the brick-and-mortar analogy, He is the cornerstone - the stabilizing piece that keeps the building together.
If we have a single function, as a body or a building, all parts need to work together to avoid chaos and destruction. Do we do this? We can’t even work together in a small church family without conflict. BUT, we can make the effort to resist the devil, recognizing that he is the source of discord.
Father, bind us together in Your love. Let us work together with one goal in mind - to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Let us experience, via the power of Your Holy Spirit, the inner ONENESS that You have, the never-ending peace and love. Thank you and Amen!
Have a blessed day!
