Your eye is the lamp of your body
““No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.” ~Luke 11:33-36
I love eyes - they tell you so much without words. The eyes change with emotion and thoughts - “the window to the soul” is not a misnomer. When I am doing a painting of an animal, the eyes are the first thing I complete - that beautiful creature comes alive and almost dictates how they want to be portrayed.
I try to imagine talking with Jesus, our eyes meeting and holding. What would He see? Would there be light and joy? Love? Lingering pain of loss? I hope He finds no bitterness or darkness there.
Father, during this season of wonder and light, fill us to overflowing with Your joy in Your Son. Let those around us feel Your love in our presence, a true outpouring of Your grace and mercy. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear praises from Your angelic army as we join their heavenly chorus, proclaiming the birth of You Son - peace and good will toward mankind. In His precious name, Amen!
